What Is Reflexology

Reflexology and VRT appear to help regulate sleep patterns and bring about deeper relaxation. Self-help instruction for hand reflexology can be given to aid a restful night’s sleep. Musculoskeletal problems, undefined back pain and sports injuries may respond well to reflexology and VRT.

How Does It Work

The Art of Reflexology dates back thousands of years, where it was practised in Egyptian, Chinese and many other cultures. Modern day reflexology is based on Zone theory developed by Dr William Fitzgerald. He divided the body into 10 equal vertical zones ending in the fingers and toes. He noted that applying pressure on one part of a zone could affect everything else within that zone. This theory was then further developed by Eunice Ingham a physiotherapist in the 1930’s She created a map of the reflex points in the feet showing how they mirror and correspond to every area and organ within the body.

Promotes deep muscular relaxation and detoxification of the body. Via gentle stimulation of the reflex points in the feet or hands, creating a ‘switch off space’ for the body and mind allowing it to begin the process of rebalancing itself. There are many aspects in modern life that can disrupt our natural balance. Stress the main contender, physical illness, general pollution and medication can all impact our state wellbeing.

Who Is It Suitable For?

Reflexology is safe and suitable for all conditions of the mind, body and soul. It can be successfully used from babyhood on through and into old age. it can be particularly beneficial in anxiety and depression, preconception and pregnancy, Pmt/menstrual irregularities, menopause, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, migraines, insomnia, hay fever, sinusitis, recurring coughs and colds back problems and sciatica, low energy states.

Benefits can be felt even after one session and can include relief or reduction of pain, feeling more relaxed and positive.

The Treatment

A precise pressure is applied mainly using thumbs to connect with the reflex points on the feet or the hands. Sensitivity in a specific area reflects some imbalance and congestion in that area of the body. Any discomfort felt while the reflex is worked on is temporary. Mostly it is an enjoyable and very relaxing experience.

Regular reflexology will help to boost your immune system and keep you feeling good. your first appointment includes a free consultation where we can discuss the treatment that is appropriate for you. So, the following is not set in stone. I would usually recommend a course of weekly treatments for approx. four sessions to achieve maximum benefit, reducing to a monthly maintenance treatment once improvement has been established.

Treatment – sessions take around 55 minutes for £45

Vertical Reflex Therapy

As well as general and advanced reflexology. I also offer Vertical Reflex Therapy.

This is a technique developed by Lynne Booth. It differs from general reflexology in that the reflexes on the top and sides of the feet are treated whilst you are standing. The weight-bearing effect on the reflexes seems to allow deeper access.

VRT can be incorporated into a conventional Reflexology session if there is a chronic problem. or used as a standalone treatment in an acute situation such as a sports injury it might be more appropriate to do 2 short vrt sessions per week. A full VRT session lasts just 20 mins as it much more intense and the body responds very quickly to it, sometimes immediately in orthopaedic conditions.

It does not usually need to be repeated or maintained once the problem is resolved.

It is especially effective in back and skeletal problems, it has also proved effective in treating problems such as asthma, arthritis ME and sports injuries.

I can also show you some self-help techniques to use between treatment.
